Spin Up Science Director Talks At sTARTUp Day
Spin Up Science Director Dr Ben Miles flew to Estonia in January to speak at sTARTUp Day 2019, bringing together over 100 world-class speakers and 4000 attendees to discuss business, innovation and new technologies.
The theme pathway, titled ‘Science to Business’, focused on how to connect science and entrepreneurship and why businesses should embrace innovative science. In addition to the panel session, Ben was also interviewed for the event and delivered a seminar on “How research intensive companies can best deliver product-market fit”.
Ben was asked to join the panel because he believes passionately in empowering scientists to start their own companies and that universities should be strongly connected to innovation clusters. The panel discussion focused on how best to encourage universities to support the spin out process. Ben spoke alongside Luke Robinson, director of Post Urban Ventures, Erik Puura, Vice-rector for Development at University of Tartu, and Mikko Pohjola, Collaboration Manager at University of Turku.
The panel was moderated by Lars Jonsson, CEO of Uppsala University Holding Company.
