The Science Entrepreneur Experience
The Entrepreneurial Scientist
The Science Entrepreneur Experience is a live exercise in the commercialisation of science-enabled technology. Small cohorts of PhD scientists are paired with academic researchers or early-stage companies interested in exploring the commercial potential of their research. During a week of intensive entrepreneurship training, cohorts assess the viability of the technology and develop a route-to market.
Audience: PhD/Postdoctoral researchers
Size: 4-8 participants
Length: 4-5 days
Content: Entrepreneurship, technology commercialisation, market research, financial planning, investment readiness, investment pitching, client management and consultancy
Guided by experienced entrepreneurs, the cohort will learn to source the expert advice required for establishing new ventures based on scientific research. The program aims to nurture the next generation of entrepreneurially-minded PhD researchers and arm them with the skill-sets needed to commercialise new technologies. The insights gained from the program can serve as the launch pad for the commercialisation of these projects.

“This was by far the best industrial training experience I have undertaken as part of my CDT. I feel empowered that now I could start my own company. Experiencing that you can sit down with or call up people in the professional world and just ask for advice, really gave me permission to act and reassurance that there was an ecosystem out there to support me.”
As an PhD or postdoc
Are you interested in seeing your research reach it's ultimate usage? Would you like to explore the skill sets that would allow you to start your own company?
As a technology SME
Are you developing technology for a commercial project or interested in doing so? We use real companies as the case study for our courses, and in return deliver all the information back to you, from market research to technology road-map.
As a Doctoral Training Centre
We want PGRs and PDRAs to be armed with the skill sets to lead companies and interface effectively with industry. We believe teaching these skill sets early builds the best cohorts, leaders, and researchers.
