Events and Sponsorship Manager

We are looking for an enthusiastic events and sponsorship manager to help support a new company working to champion and inspire the next generation of scientific innovators.

Spin Up Science Ltd ( was incorporated in 2018 to support entrepreneurial scientists, inspire future innovators and establish the UK as a centre for technology commercialisation. We work to connect scientists and engineers across the UK’s academic institutions with local industry and decision makers, through events, technology showcases and training programs. Our goals are to support the development of scientists and engineers as leaders and innovators, strengthen the connection between innovation in the public and private sector, and increase the number of scientific and technology companies in the UK.

We are currently recruiting for an individual with a proven aptitude for events management to join our team. This is an exciting and stretching role that would involve the organisation and delivery of large and small-scale events, managing and seeking out sponsorship opportunities and leading the growth of our events offering. It may also involve activities focussed on community development, designed to further our mission of strengthening the innovation ecosystem within Bristol. We are therefore looking for a self-directed and motivated candidate who would be interested in developing new opportunities.

This will be a varied and interesting role that requires strong organisational and planning abilities, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), a flexible and adaptable approach, resilience, and the ability to think quickly whilst making effective decisions. The post-holder would be working closely with start-ups, industry, academics and researchers, as well as engaging with corporate sponsors and business leaders.

As a small team, we can offer candidates a friendly and enthusiastic working environment, based in Unit DX, Bristol’s first science incubator. Successful candidates would take on key responsibilities in the organisation and management of the business, and for the right candidate there may be opportunities to contribute towards shaping the direction of the business. This position is offered as a six month contract in the first instance, with the post-holder leading the organisation and delivery of a major event in this period.

Person specification:


  • Experience of event planning and organisation

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Enthusiastic and confident presentation style

  • Ability to direct own work and seek out new opportunities

  • Knowledge of, or interest in, start-ups and entrepreneurship

  • Knowledge of, or interest in, science and technology

  • A positive and collaborative approach to teamwork

  • Sound organisation, administration and planning skills, including a demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks, challenging projects and competing deadlines concurrently

  • Understanding of appropriate behaviours for engaging with external and internal business stakeholders, sponsors and industry partners


  • Experience of commercial sponsorship

  • Experience of project management

  • Experience of sales, particularly in an events context

  • Ability to think creatively and strategically and to plan ahead

  • Experience in teaching, training or consultancy

  • Scientific background (B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D)

Job Type: Full-time, though we can consider part-time applications

Salary: £18,000.00 to £30,000.00 per year FTE, dependent on experience.
